About the event

Bemidji State University will celebrate the heritage and culture of 2SLGBTQIAP+ peoples at its 2SLGBTQIAP+ History Experience President’s Reception on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in BSU’s Beaux Arts Ballroom.

The event is hosted by the Office of the President, Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Northwoods Queer Outreach. Light appetizers and beverages will be provided.  It is free and open to the BSU, NTC and Bemidji communities. No RSVP required.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: ARNOLD DAHL-WOOLEY

Arnold Dahl-Wooley (Him/His) will speak on Two Spirit and its connection to the American Indian Culture. Arnold is a member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and a Bemidji State University alum. Arnold currently resides on the Leech Lake Reservation with his husband, Matthew Dahl-Wooley. Arnold and Matthew hold the honor of being the first same-sex marriage to be sanctioned by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in 2013. Arnold, a business owner of 20 years with his husband Matthew, own the Historic Big Winnie Store RV Park and Campground. Arnold, being a member of the LGBTQ+ Two Spirit community, has been a public speaker and advocate for 19 years providing presentations, outreach and cultural information about the LGBTQ+ Two Spirit population and discusses the Two Spirit history and the importance of it in modern times. Arnold has been a Pioneer speaking for others who have not had a voice using education, culture, history of events, community and social media to bring forth positive education for others to understand the importance of equality, culture and leading by example. Arnold is also currently working with Mewinsha Ondaadisiike Wiigaming in Bemidji, and Arnold’s role is to give outreach support/social group for our LGBTQ+2S community for all ages.
